Which attribute do you consider most important when selecting a fire alarm system?

Appearance - what is the impact on architectural layout and/or decor.
Reliability - how good is the actual fire detection, operation, and false alarm rate.
Maintainability - does the system provide information to assist in troubleshooting (such as apparent locations of faults)?  Does a problem in one part of the system or building affect other areas?
Initial installation costs - actual cost of installation, including all labor and materials, including any ancillary trades (such as air conditioning or elevator connections).  Is special wire required?
Long-term service costs - self-service/repair options, replacement product costs, expected product life.
